Korean Makeup Tips: What I Learned from K-Style with Chuchie

Sharing my fave takeaways from a K-style makeup class with Chuchie! If you want to learn Korean makeup techniques and tips, especially for Filipino skin, check out her one-on-one classes! Chuchie studied Kbeauty in Jung Saem Mool in Seoul, no less!

Start with a Solid Base.
Just like in any skill or craft, a good base is everything. Koreans spend more time perfecting the skin to create a flawless, natural-looking canvas.
Less Is More.
Avoid layering too much product—overdoing it often leads to a cakey finish. Keep it light and build gradually.
Be Intentional with Every Stroke.
Every line and touch in Korean makeup is purposeful. Each detail is placed to enhance natural beauty, not cover it up.

Dab, Don’t Drag.
Always use a dabbing or tapping motion when applying product. Dragging can remove or shift makeup that’s already been applied.
Blush Placement Matters.
Focus blush on the center of the face—too high or too wide (especially toward the cheekbones) can make your face appear larger or unbalanced.
Contour Should Be Soft and Subtle.
Koreans use contour powders more like shadow than sculpture. It’s meant to enhance depth, not create harsh lines.

Volume starts at the Roots.
A light, airy lift gives your look that effortless, soft-glam vibe you see in K-dramas and K-pop stages.
Lighting Affects Application.
Avoid standing directly under strong overhead lights when applying makeup—they can cast shadows that make you apply product too heavily.
Have Fun With It!
At the end of the day, it’s just makeup—don’t stress. Play around, experiment, and enjoy the process!
